Faith Cooperative Federal Credit Union is heir to a legacy of a declaration of economic independence that was birthed in 1959 as the St. John Federal Credit Union, under the leadership of pastor and civil rights activist, the late Dr. E. C. Estell. The economic pioneers at the SJFCU recognized the importance of cooperative economics being a key to the liberation and empowerment of disinherited African Americans in Dallas and the credit union became a reality. Faith Cooperative Credit Union is standing on the shoulders of this powerful legacy.
Friendship-West Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes, III envisioned a micro loan bank, in order to serve the under banked Southern Dallas County residents. The micro loan was especially needed because of the inundation of payday predators that were saturating the community and exploiting persons who were financially desperate. The Faith Cooperative Federal Credit Union is the offspring of the marriage between St. John Federal Credit Union and the micro loan bank vision of Friendship-West Baptist church.
The Faith Cooperative Federal Credit Union is dedicated to the financial freedom and economic empowerment of the community. Our credit union is determined to live up to its name as a faith-based financial institution that partners with the community so that together we can create a community of opportunity through our exceptional service to and on behalf of our stakeholders.
